A Poem for Earth Day. Read Aloud, Please.

My one contribution is Avebury, England, 2006.
And here are more photographs from my Ukrainian exchange student.

Now say a little prayer of thanks for Father Hopkins and our sweet Earth.

Pied Beauty

Glory be to God for dappled things
For skies of couple-colour as a brinded cow;
For rose-moles all in stipple upon trout that swim;
Fresh-firecoal chestnut-falls, finches' wings;
Landscape plotted and pieced - fold, fallow, and plough;
And all trades, their gear and tackle and trim.
All things counter, original, spare, strange;
Whatever is fickle, freckled (who knows how??)
With swift, slow; sweet, sour; adazzle, dim;
He fathers-forth whose beauty is past change:
Praise God.

Avebury - what a wonderful choice for Earth Day. I love the ducks on parade, too.

What a wonderful post M, thank you. Isn't it interesting how often the humble cow appears in prose and poetry in praise of Mother Earth?
I agree with you and Willow........GMH is so enjoyable to read.

Sandra, my sweetie actually took the photo, but I was holding the lense cover!!!

Willow, GMH...I have to have a big dose of his words at least once a week. And YES...I took that picture and cropped it and added the lettering....and.....gosh darn I am exicted!

Michael, COWS? Did you say cows, my boy? I've got some cow pictures. I love their big glowing eyes! {Light bulb flashing over my head}...I'm planning a post just for you!!

Lyn, that was just the English teacher in me. It makes a difference doesn't it?
